Brandon Fields NFL Play 60 Camp

Yesterday, Jeremy and I were fortunate enough to be able to volunteer at the Brandon and Katie Fields NLF Play 60 Camp in Toledo. Brandon is the punter for the Miami Dolphins and is from Toledo. I heard of their camp through Katie's aunt at the gym and reached out to her for volunteer needs. It was extremely rewarding to spread the message of fitness and exercise to the 8th grade and under participants.

Not to mention, our hall of fame game tickets came in yesterday!

Recipes Galore!

Hi my name is Sarah and I sometimes suck at updating my blog. Below are the following recipes and their pictures:

Vegan Protein Blueberry Poptarts
Dr. Seuss Apple
Cherry Protein Mug Cake
Vegan Peanut Butter Tofu Protein Ice Cream

Vegan Protein Blueberry Poptarts
Blend 1/4 cup oats, 1 scoop vanilla protein powder, and some water together. I didn't measure the water, just mixed enough to make it a batter consistency. Spread out evenly on a parchment paper covered cookie sheet. Bake 6 minutes at 375. In a bowl, heat 1/2 cup blueberries for 2 minutes in the microwave. Remove base from oven when ready and slice into six squares. Layer and make into sandwiches. Bake additional 3 minutes.

Dr. Seuss Apple
I was bored so I sliced a granny smith and a pink layer and layered them together with sunflower seed butter.

Cherry Protein Mug Cake
Blend 1 TBSP unsweetened applesauce, 2 egg whites, 1 TBSP coconut flour, 1 tsp baking powder, 2 tsp unsweetened cocoa powder, splash of unsweetened almond milk, 1 tsp vanilla extract, 2 pitted cherries, and 1/4 cup oats. Pour into sprayed coffee mug and microwave for 90 seconds. Frosting is one scoop vanilla sun warrior protein, water, and 2 mashed pitted cherries. 284 calories with 33 grams of protein.

Vegan Peanut Butter Tofu Protein Ice Cream
Blend 1/4 block extra firm tofu and 2 TBSP PB2. Layer with chocolate protein. Freeze for 30.

Vegan Fudgy Balls
Blend 20 dates (pit them), 1/3 cup almonds, 1/3 cup cocoa powder, and 1/4 cup sugar free maple syrup. Refrigerate for at least two hours. Roll them around in whatever your vegan fudgy heart desires. Pictures are naked balls, coconut balls, almond balls, dark chocolate balls, and protein powder balls.

Everything Banana Bars
Blend 3 bananas, 1 cup oats, 1/3 cup unsweetened applesauce, 1/2 cup unsweetened almond milk, some cinnamon, and a splash of maple extract. Fold in raisins, almonds, coconut, and dark chocolate chips. Pour into greased pan and top with more unsweetened coconut and dark chocolate chips. Bake for 20 at 350.

Quest Bar Celebration
Celebratory Quest Bar to commemorate my first top 5 finish! Just warm up a vanilla almond crunch Quest Bar and top with vanilla protein and sprinkles.

Lettuce Wraps
Vegan Boca crumbles, salsa, onion, corn, and avocado all on romaine hearts.

Pecan Pie Pancakes
Blend 2 TBSP almond meal, 2 TBSP vanilla protein powder, 3 TBSP unsweetened almond milk, 2 TBSP coconut yogurt, 1/2 tsp baking powder, 1/2 tsp vanilla extract, and 1/2 tsp cinnamon. Yields 5 pancakes. Top with 2 TBSP coconut yogurt mixed with sugar free maple syrup and cinnamon. Pecans added on top as well. 375 calories with 23 grams of protein.

Pina Colada Pancakes
Mix 1/2 cup unsweetened almond milk and 1/2 cup whole wheat oats. Yields 3-4 pancakes. Top with pineapple rings and unsweetened coconut slivers.

Northern Indiana- NPC Show #3

This past weekend, Chelsea and I competed in the Northern Indiana NPC Show in South Bend, IN. Being back in my hometown was such a humbling experience. We all camped out at my dad's house and "the guys" AKA my dad, Jeremy, and Chelsea's boyfriend Chase, hung out all weekend while we were preparing for our show.

This show was significantly smaller than the others I have competed in this year, but it was an incredible show none the less. I ended up taking 5th! Which means... I am qualified to compete at a national level show for 364 days.

I apologize that I haven't posted recently. I don't believe in blogging for the sake of a blog post. I think blogging is appropriate when you have something to say. This contest prep has by far, been the hardest one yet. With each show and each prep, you strive to do better than the one before. This creates incredible stress mentally and physically. I know how hard I have worked and now I just have to trust the process and believe that all of my hard work will be displayed on stage.

I probably won't post again until after the show this weekend. I have really relied on my yoga practice to take a mental break from worrying about my competition and have continue to make strides with my practice. I just have to remember to breathe.

A Week Full of Recipes

I apologize for not posting recipes on the daily. This week has been semi-crazy being 3 weeks out from another show. I also got to play around with a lot of different ingredients as our fruit / carb cut doesn't start until middle of next week. You'll find the following recipes below:

Earth Smoothie
Blueberry Crisp
Sweet Potato Protein Cake
Raw Lemon Bars
Chocolate Protein Mug Cake
Raw Breakfast Cookie

Earth Smoothie Recipe:
Green Layer: Blend 1 frozen sliced banana, 3 cups spinach, 1/2 cup unsweetened almond milk, and 1/8 cup sugar free syrup. Purple Layer: blend 85 grams extra firm tofu, 1/2 cup unsweetened almond milk, 1/8 cup sugar free syrup, and 1 cup frozen blueberries.

Blueberry Crisp Recipe:
Mix 2 cups blueberries, 1/2 tsp nutmeg, 1 TBSP honey, 1 TBSP cinnamon, and juice from 1 orange. Blend together and pour into pie dish. Bake for 25 minutes at 325. While baking mix topping: 2/3 cup coconut flour and 2 TBSP unsweetened apple sauce. Place on top of blueberry mix once 25 minutes has passed and bake for an additional 25

Sweet Potato Protein Cake Recipe:
Blend 1 small cooked sweet potato (keep the skin), 1 TBSP coconut flour, 1 egg white and 1/2 scoop vanilla protein together. Pour into sprayed bread tin and bake for 20 at 320. Once cooled, slice diagonally and frost. Frosting is 1/2 scoop vanilla protein powder mixed with water. Top with sliced almonds.

Raw Lemon Bars Recipe:
Bottom Layer: Blend 3/4 cup almonds, 1/4 cup unsweetened coconut flakes, and 1/4 cup sugar free maple syrup. Press into pie pan. Top Layer: mix 1/2 cup unsweetened apple sauce, 2 TBSP lemon juice, and 1/4 cup sugar free syrup. Layer on top of crust and add lemon zest. Freeze for 30 minutes.

Chocolate Protein Mug Cake Recipe:
Blend the following in a blender: 1 TBSP unsweetened apple sauce, 2 egg whites, 1 TBSP coconut flour, 1 tsp baking powder, 2 tsp unsweetened cocoa powder, splash of unsweetened almond milk, 1 tsp vanilla extract, and 1/4 cup oats. Pour into sprayed coffee mug. Microwave for 90 seconds. Frosting is one scoop chocolate sun warrior protein powder mixed with water.

Raw Breakfast Cookie Recipe:
Mix 2 TBSP coconut flour, 1 TBSP sugar free syrup, 1 TBSP almond butter, 1/3 cup unsweetened apple sauce, 1 TBSP unsweetened almond milk, 1 tsp vanilla extract, and 1/2 box of organic raisins. Mold into cookie shape and refrigerate overnight uncovered on parchment paper.

Julie Palmer Showdown- NPC Show #2

This past weekend, I competed in my second NPC show and Chels competed in her first. We started our carb cut 8 days out, started painting 4 days out, and rocked the stage Saturday morning.

Chels and I traveled down Friday afternoon in order to arrive at the hotel in time to do a third coat of ProTan before heading to pre-registration. Jeremy and three of our friends also made the trip down to support us.

Saturday morning at 7am the fun began with hair and another layer of tan. After arriving at the convention center and our competitors meeting, we began make up and touch ups. My mom and youngest sister attended our show as well in support, my youngest sister was hilarious- constantly asking questions and poking fun at the thongs that the bodybuilders wear.

Fast forward. Backstage. I'm the tenth girl in line for Class A. We find out we only have ten seconds on stage. Talk about pressure. This completely threw me off as we had been practicing 30 second routines. I know it showed on my face that I was flustered and I did not pose nearly as well as I wanted to.

I ended up taking 9th place out of 22 girls in my class. Chels rocked Class B and took 7th out of 16 girls in the medium height class.

In between pre judging and finals we ventured over to the Dayton mall and found a vegan restaurant and we also found a custom t-shirt shop. Talk about fun!

We will be back on stage on the 22nd and I couldn't be more excited for the support that we receive from our friends and family!
